The Parrot is a beautiful bird. They have brilliantly colored plumage and are one of only a few birds that can be taught to talk. They seem quite at home in a cage where they strut around waiting to be fed or to have their cage cleaned. They don’t seem to care that their feathers are sometimes clipped to limit their ability to fly. They may seem to be smart because they can talk, but they are only repeating things that they have heard countless times. They don’t think, they simply repeat, regurgitating what they have been trained to say. Perhaps you may know a parrot? They can be found on the squawk box on certain channels and also on social media. When I hear a parrot my first thought is the parrot is incapable of original thought, but that may be my bias from life experience dealing with parrots.
One might think that crying wolf would get old but the parrots in the media and in the political class are still squawking about a “Threat to our Democracy” (Oh my God!) In a time in the past when words meant things and we all understood them to mean the same thing, this would never be a narrative that sane people would repeat. This got me thinking; (rhut-roh) Am I a threat to our democracy? Give me a chance to unpack that. The people who are using this refrain, basically are telling the truth; at least according to their definition of democracy and their desire to implement one.
The founding fathers of this nation and the framers of the constitution created it, specifically to PREVENT DEMOCRACY. These were not stupid men, and they had studied ancient civilizations and why they failed. As Benjamin Franklin quipped, “Democracy is two wolves and a sheep, voting on what to have for dinner”. He and others worked diligently to create a representative republic, and they had some serious concerns about our ability to keep it. The clown show we are witnessing now is a testament to Franklin’s wisdom.
Since the early 1900’s progressives have been chipping away at our constitution and our freedoms. Like termites infesting a historic building they eat away at the structure until it can no longer support itself. They play the long game. These people brought us the seventeenth amendment which undermined federalism. Today, a Senator is nothing more than a super congressman with little or no allegiance to the people of their respective states. They (all of them) are responsible for nearly every stupid idea and program that has weakened our country. They are spending us into a perpetual penury and they are still trying to end the electoral college in order to install this democracy. They, with the help of unwitting and unthinking republicans, have given us the administrative state we are living under. Lately the leftist chameleon candidate is proposing getting rid of the filibuster and proposing to install rule by majority to essentially do the things that they cannot do under the constitution as it stands, weakened as it is. Consent of the governed be damned. What they fail to think about is that someday, the tables might be turned on them, which of course would have them suddenly wishing for limits on the power to impose rules on the minority.
Chris Bray gives a great example here:
Clearly not everyone gets the introspection/ irony gene.
Have we learned nothing in the last few years about the nature of power? Does anyone want to live by consensus? If six out of ten doctors say everyone must take the shot or lose one’s livelihood, is that the kind of democracy we are talking about? Remember this?
If fifty one percent of us believe the earth is in peril, should we allow them to decide what kind of car we drive, where we can live, what we can build, what appliances we can own, what foods we can eat or sell, et cetera? If over half of the population thinks that the other half is fascist, (never mind that they don’t even know the definition of the word) would it be a surprise to find that with the power of the mob, that innocent people would find themselves in the gulag? (sound familiar?) Even on the delicate subject of abortion, which bodily autonomy is central to the argument, do the proponents of “reproductive care” really want a republican majority to decide on “choice”? I doubt it!
Here's a little memory exercise: Can you remember being told to stay home whether you like it or not? Do you remember the propaganda campaign from the Hollywood twits. Here is a refresher:
My apologies, treating us like children and dropping the F bomb; perfect!
Vaccine passports anyone? Boosters?
Show me your papers, citizen. Mask mandates, spot standing, social distancing, outdoor bubbles for dining, snitch lines to rat out your freedom loving neighbor, travel restrictions, reporting requirements when crossing state lines? Got censorship? Remember the Biden administration colluded with tech companies to silence opposing voices that warned of the dangers of the government-controlled propaganda? Did you acquiesce to their mandates? How do you feel about that now? Think that won’t happen again in their democracy?
Remember, in their ideal democracy the individual is subservient to the group in power. In their view the state will have say over the parents when deciding on the proper raising of children. Remember, that under the emergency executive orders handed down by these champions of democracy, individual rights were violated by all knowing, unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats. Don’t forget how many lives and businesses were destroyed by these oh so virtuous people. In their democracy, some groups are treated differently than others. Is that not their democracy? Are not sanctuary cities and the un-equal processing of criminals and evasion of laws, responsible for the crime waves in many of our cities? Is that the democracy that is so threatened? Is the censorship of ideas that has metastasized its tentacles into our tech media and our so-called defenders of the truth, something that we as Americans, would ever expect to have to deal with before this newfound democracy? Did any of us ever imagine a time when one could lose their job or their livelihood for having a different opinion? I could go on, but I am sure most (clearly not all) of you get the point.
Our country was founded on the principle of individual rights. All the proponents of this “democracy” have turned that on its head. They are A THREAT TO OUR REPUBLIC and LIBERTY. This really isn’t a partisan issue for thinking individuals who value our country. Most of us regardless of party affiliation, should ask ourselves; do you really want to live in their ideal democracy? I don’t. So, do I self-identify as a threat to their democracy? You bet your ass I do.
Be a threat to their democracy; It’s the American thing to do.
Lazlo the deplorable.
Excellent use of the nausea-inducing "vaxx scene."
So true Laz, and very well written. I can’t comprehend their idea of democracy, butt then again, I am deplorable.
